All India Protest Day in Support of JNU15th February
- Created: 05 March 2016
The incidents in JNU over the last few days have attracted lot of debate and attention. SFI has strongly condemned the secessionist slogans raised by a section of students.
But, over the last few days we have seen how this incident has been used by RSS-ABVP and the corporate-controlled media to attack the democratic ethos of JNU and paint all left students’ organizations as ‘anti-national’. Social media campaign #ShutdownJNU is being run, targeting the entire university as ‘anti-national.’ There are concerted efforts to tarnish the entire left and democratic students’ movement. SFI’s offices have been attacked in Lucknow and Dehradun.
Police entered the campus with the permission of the VC, and started indiscriminate raiding of hostels. The JNU Students Union President has been arrested, even though he and other office-bearers have made it absolutely clear that neither were they the organizers of the said programme, nor did they endorse the slogans raised by a section of protestors. Yesterday, some activists and common people have been randomly picked up by the police from the Jashn-e-Rekhta festival in the capital.
We call upon all democratic sections to maintain steadfast unity against this assault on the democratic processes, particularly in JNU. We demand that the JNUSU President be released immediately, Police Raj in JNU should end and the witch hunting of JNU students should stop. We can’t allow fascist outfits to use the actions of some of the misguided elements to attack the entire university and the left-democratic movement.
CEC calls upon all its units across the country to organize All India Protest Day on 15th February.
